MX5 Builders

Hi all,
Out of interest how many people on here are building an MX5 version of the Roadster?
Perhaps it would be nice to know the following for us all.

1, What build is it based on (SSC/NTS, Voodou or other).
2, What year of donor.
3, What size of engine.
4, What point are you in the build.
5, What type of bodykit you intend to fit.

Etc.....

Also would it be a good idea to have a MX5 based section on the forum making it easier for MX5 specific questions...

Just a thought

Cheers Johno:)

Good Idea :)

1) Mine is based on the Vodou design

2) 1996

3) 1.8 engine, seems to be the slightly easier choice given the trouble some people have had with the inlet on the 1.6, though I didn't know that at the time, just wanted the bigger one :D

4) So far the donor is completely stripped, the chassis is mostly done, and I'm just getting ready to weld on the suspension brackets so that I can order my wishbones from talon.

Hadn't really put any thought into the bodywork so far, I haven't made the rear tub section yet so I don't know whether it'll be ali or grp.

How is yours going Johno?

Like the idea of an MX-5 section, would make things easier, though I don't know who we'd have to ask to make that happen?

1. Saturn NTS

2. 1995

3. 1.8BPz

4. Finished, just need to refit steering rack/rod ends, extend front indicators, fit center rear view mirrors, numberplate light, number plate board, carbon front arches, trim 7mm off one side of front hoop, fit some nice wheels and drill a hole in seats and floor to let the rain out

5. Carbon/grp NTS

Here you go:

1. Saturn/NTS
2. 1992
3. 1.6
4. Nowhere near where I'd like to be! Chassis rolling with most of the bodywork fitted, brake and fuel lines done, wiring and engine re-build in progress.
5. Saturn Nose cone, scuttle, and bonnet. Ali sides and tub.

An MX5 specific section could be just the ticket :)

1 SSC/NTS/HandyAndy chassis
2 1995
3 1839cc
4 Engine removal
5 Mostly SSC/NTS GRP panels, some CF and aluminium may find their way into the build somewhere :)

1) Kit purchased from Saturn/NTS - Factory chassis (probably the first available for sale)
2, 1991 - but made sure it wasn't a short crank engine!!
3, 1600 as I want to add a blower in the future
4, Rolling chassis - engine, tank and roll bar going in soon. can then think about starting it!!!
5, Hopefully NTS bodywork.

Mx5 builder

1. nts/ssc
2. 1994 Eunos roadster
3. 1.8
4. Still working on chassis.
5. nts/ssc Hopefully :)

I probably have the slowest build rate of you all, never enough time in the day :(

vmax1974 9th June 2012 11:27 AM

1. nts/ssc
2. 1992 Uk spec donor
3. 1.6 as I want to add the mini supercharger later on
4. Chassis progress is slow going just on with rear chassis section then fully weld and then start on wishbones.
5. Ssc/nts body in nice bright green when I get some funds together

Also considering a sierra book spec car to go alongside the mx5 build
