Wishbone Manufacturing

Hi everyone, i'm new to this thread but in the middle of building a roadster :).
The problem i'm having is i'll be starting the suspension in about a months time (final bit of welding to the chassis). I noticed the cutting of the wishbone tube and then shaping it to the threaded bar. I'm thinking this might take a while......but i'm reluctant in buying the wishbones as i want to make the car completely myself. So i put it to the guy's at my work, they suggested replacing the threaded round abr eith a threaded suare bar. So in effect you only have an angle to cut and no shaping needed. It will give me a good flat surface for welding.

Has anyone thought about this? Any drawback?
Or am i just getting cautious for no reason and the shaping isn't that hard at all?
P.S I haven't found a thread, but has anyone covered this before?
Thnaks in advance
Nathan

as its thick wall tube and a good thickness wall to the threaded bits it would be posible to just cut the tube flat and fill the gap with weld as your going to need a good bit of penitration so you wouldnt want a flush fit as the gap helps the weld get all the way in

Thanks Baz-r, would that also apply with the wishbone eyes?

need to be a little bit more careful here as the bush tube is thinner and may distort
cut this bit flat at the right angle but make the cut so the tube is too long then use a half round file to shape to alow the bush tube to fit at the right postion
its easer than you think

You could just buy the wishbone tubes pre profiled to the correct angles.

I didn't know you could buy them pre-profiled, who would sell them?
Ok thanks, i'll have a good think about taking the easy pre-cut or juts tought it out and get the file out!

buying pre cut is a great option

problem with square is how it deals with loads, because it has corners these can become stress points and may lead to failure. yes you can just make it out of bigger stock but why make it big and heavy when you dont need to.

i think andy at saturn may be able to do you a set of pre cut wishbones.
there are others aswell but andy was the first that came to mind, also worth checking ebay.
