side mirrors?

hi Phil, fwiw I ve used a widebody westfield screen pillars and mirrors , not through iva myself but on the basis that westy's go through it with them then they should be fine. the lower screen edges needed fettling and the lower part of the stanchions too.
I think there would need to be some sort of standardisation on the scuttles as they are slightly different (I used Saturn / gillham).
I did put a windscreen thread up, with how I did it
good luck

that would be a good cost effective way of dealing with the scuttle variation as once you have the "fillet" moulds these could be produced as required, the westfield pillars are often available quite reasonably priced if you were after a set to experiment with. These have the benefit of having mirrors attached although the early ones don't have the mirror boss.
I reckon it would have to be flexible / adaptable as we are speaking of quite a small market for 7 esque cars and then take off the ones who prefer the aero approach it would be very low volume , I think ...... although there is no one filling the gap at present.
The next thing to source are small wiper arms and blades, wiper motors/drive old mini or mgb will fit the bill with the addition of an earth the mgb one plugs straight into an mx5 loom connector thus giving all std operations

that sounds promising, the westy screen I bought was £160 + £25 for the plywood shipping box +vat and carriage tot was £240 ish, the supports/mirrors I bought second hand, but again if looking at that style a second hand pair could provide "inspiration".
as a thought many years back we did rc model aircraft fuselages and the way we did that was to make a ply box which was returned after the customer had received their item, there was a surcharge which was refunded on receipt of the box back to us in useable condition , saved a lot on time/ expence making them and the customer ultimately didn't pay for the box (he did pay to return the box)

some options to consider re screen supports
mirror attachment points ... or not
door / wind deflector attachment points... or not
strength as there is a fair bit of force hitting the screen
body attachment etc.
Im sure you have considered these points, just stuck at home today and throwing it out to you, don't mean to offend..
Heaven knows we need people to explore , develop , supply things to benefit those of us who cant.
Keep up the good work

I'll be keeping my eye on this, I want a windscreen to make my car a bit more useable.

Bunch of girls, whats the problem with the wind in your hair and fly splats on your face :p

Seriously it would make it a little more pleasant to be out of the wind.

SeriesLandy 21st January 2016 09:04 AM

I don't mind the wind in my face, it's just I can't see over 25mph unless I wear a helmet.
I have been thinking about a screen for a while but wouldn't even know where to start looking as the Haynes seems to be a funny size.

having been in the way of making stuff myself in the past , you will always get price knockers ~~~###, anyway yes I totally agree with the westfield pricing being horrendous, whilst "I am sure they are doing their best" ahem.. you only have to read the build threads to see that they have their own pricing supply stock problems.
folks it aint easy trust me I know.
however in their defence they are trying to prop up a business with shareholders etc
Any hows Talon's prices are more than reasonable, yes we all would like something a wee bit cheaper or a wee bargin here and there, but if we want to be able to buy rather than diy then there is a point where materials, operating costs and even a wee profit cant be lowered below ( I know I don't work for nowt )
any how I have no commercial interest other than a satisfied customer of Talon and I will however give as much support, help and enthusiastic support to any one who tries to help provide for our needs for our hobby.

Off ma soap box now
I do think the side frame area is somewhere that needs a bit of design though as again with the differing scuttle shapes the radii and angles are different , as I had to modify / reprofile the inside of the mounting point on the westy ones.
oh I think from memory the mirrors are rover 214 :)

Ianr 21st January 2016 11:30 PM

I have no idea which mirrors are the ones. And. I don't know if they will fit my car. But, I would like to know which ones they are ;-)

rpjg1975 22nd January 2016 07:32 AM

I'm sure I remember them being rover 200 but my memory isn't what it used to be.......

Rosco 22nd January 2016 08:05 AM

Buy some goggles. I have some that look like oakleys but have foam on the inside. Got the on eBay for about a tenner. Much nicer than with a helmet on.

Any idea what to search for. I've tried 4 pairs of oakleys but none are any good.

The GBS Zero wide body (I think it is the "GT") has slightly the same dimensions as a Haynes. I have a flyscreen from GBS on my car, and it perfectly fits my Equinox scuttle. I'm pretty sure the windscreen kit should fit too (you might need to trim the glass to fit your scuttle though). The kits are available from Kitspares, and of course they are not cheap :)
