Make cut in the diff. casing?

Hi,
When I installed my hand brake cable through CP13 last year, the hard sleeve was touching the diff. in a way I don't like (forcing it into a bend which does not look right). It also makes the tensioning ring of the hand brake cable very hard to turn.

I would like to make some cuts in the diff. casing to allow the cable to run straighter, and have a smoother bend.

I marked in black the spots where I would like to do the cuts.

What do you think. Do you see any problem it could cause to the diff. casing integrity?

All comments and opinions are welcome.

Thanks!

I would not chance it Syl....What I did was put some stout pipe at the point of contact to act as a rubbing strip or mount some "p" clips to that bit of flange

here is mine

Agreed with the above, the only time its under any tension is when the h/brake is on and the car is not moving anyway. ;)

Ok guys, I won't touch it. Very good to know. Thank you for the inputs and advices.

I'll find something to protect the hand brake sleeve to rub on the ally diff casing.

BTW Kev, I caught your Dremel mania! I'm cleaning my diff with the Dremel this week end, something I promised myself I'll never do, too geeky  But here I am :D

Thanks again!

We all fall into the dremmel trap, I did mine, mind you the guy I bought mine from had painted it in red lead so it looked awful, don't think he was the brightest chisel in the tool box he told me he built a chassis in his cellar then he had to cut it in two to get it out duh bit of a homer moment
