Type 9 and MT75??
I'm looking for a gearbox to mate up with a 1.8 Zetec.
which one would i need? what is the difference? is it true that the MT75 will bolt straight on without a bell housing as it has a build in one? The Type 9 i have been told will need a bell housing which one or from what car?? Sorry so many questions Any help will be greatly appreciated Dean |
I thought Ford used a standard bolt pattern on their engines and gearboxes up til the Duratec as this is a mazda engine.
Anyway useful links below. http://www.zetecinside.com/xr2/gearbox.shtml http://www.number69.net/stylus/zetec_resources.htm |
The type 9 has a removable bellhousing. The MT75 has a integral bellhousing. Both bolt patterns are the same. All ford bellhousings fit ford engines.
So to answer your question, both the Type9 and the MT75 go onto a zetec as standard. I think the type 9 is better suited to a kitcar due to its size and its popularity means performance parts and upgrades are easy to source. |
thank you for that
so if i got a type 9 i would still have to get a bell housing? |
The bellhousing that it comes with will fit, unless you buy a performance unit from say BGH then no bellhousing incl.

is this one ok even though it has come out of a granada?

Yes, the MT75 will go onto a zetec engine. There are no special versions of the MT75 with regards the bellhousing only a 4wd and 2wd version on the tail end.

That's not true, The V6 and 4-Pot are not the same, and the SEa Duratec V6 is not the same either. TT |
Yes that looks like the granny 4cyl box and it will bolt straight up. There are only 5 bolts that hold it to the engine. None are below the sump.
ive chopped lots of metal of the bottom of mine for extra ground clearance. |
Type 9 and MT75 will fit the Zetec, some flywheel and starter motor issues with the Type 9.
Type 9 has better ratios, MT75 is stronger but only for engines over 175 bhp. Type 9 should have a bellhousing with it if not don't buy. You can fit the Cosworth T5, the best ratios but big. The V6 Type 9 will fit with a 40mm spacer between gearbox and a 4 pot bell housing and has better ratios than all the boxes exept the T5. I know because I have fitted the V6 box to a Pinto |
