Yellow Relay

1 Attachment(s)
Not sure if this has been asked before, but does anybody know what the yellow relay on the passenger side of the Sierra behind the dashboard does.

You can see it in this picture hanging down prior to removing the loom from the car.

Thanks

Mark

From what I can see in the manual, the indicator relay and lights on warning buzzer relay were fixed to the steering column. Both of these are black and I know which they are.

I was wondering if it is something to do with the security system as it is mounted near to it. It also has a blade fuse on the side of it.

I was thinking it was something to do with the cooling fan, could be wrong.

What year / features did your car have.

Mine was an 1987 GL with a 1.8 pinto, no alarm system, immobiliser, electric windows etc, but it did have central locking. I have no recollection of this relay on my car.

Hi,it could be the fuel pump relay. The sierra loom is quite modular so its reasonably easy to remove sections such as abs central locking windows etc etc i think the fuel pump relay is part of the engine loom comes just after the big ecu plug
hope this helps otherwise check the wiring colours and look in the manual at the wiring diagram
if you dont have a haynes manual i could look it up for you but ill need the car model year and engine size/type plus the wire colours for the relay

Sierra is a J reg 1.8 LX. CVH carbed engine so no fuel pump or ecu etc.

Fitted with elec windows, central locking, security module.

Found another picture that I took as I was pulling it out of the car.
Looks like the fuse onthe side of the relay has 2 red wires going to it.
The relay itself has a red, brown & 2 black with white trace going to it.

Thanks for replys so far.

Just answered my own question!!

Now I found it on the wiring diagrams, DaddyA your the winner. It is the cooling fan relay.

Make mental note not to cut that one off!!

Thanks for the guidance.

Mark
