clutch lever/arm
 
What is the correct lever/arm for the type 9? I have the type that tapers in from the centre lugs where the release bearing mounts but i have noticed that there are 3 or 4 different types.My problem is that i have bought 2 release bearings and neither fit :confused:
The inner dimension across the lugs where the release bearing mounts is 35.6mm and this measurement on both release bearings is 42.5mm.Also one bearing has a 29.6mm bore and the other is 34.4mm.Also on looking in the sierra manual there looks to be a sleeve on the splined shaft?(i dont have any of these parts as i bought a gearbox from BGH which didnt even have a bellhousing)

It just so happens that I have just collected a 2 litre Pinto engine & Type 9, 5 speed gearbox.

Firstly here are a few pics of the gearboxes clutch lever assembly that may help.



Input shaft bearing sleeve



Clutch arm roughly in place

As you can see, the type 9 box has a sleeve for the clutch release bearing to run on & is approximately 33.6mm in diameter.

The clutch arm itself measures approximately 42.5mm across the 2 bearing retaining lugs.
This arm has the following Ford part details: Oval Ford logo followed by D1E4A & bellow this is: 90BB-7541-AA

The inside of the standard bearing ( Plastic sleeve ) is approximately 34.5mm ( Quite a worn sleeve )

Don't know if this info will help or hinder you but may be of some use.

Pity that these parts are needed for Juniors car, would love to be in a position to send them out to you :(

Cheers Bonzo,nice clear pics.At least i know what to look out for.Got a month to get one from somewhere as the missus will be in UK end of Nov for 2 weeks so she can pick it up and bring it back:)
Another couple of questions;
How long is the sleeve as i can make one of them
The pin that retains the pivot end of the lever is another part i need to get.Is this push in or screw in.Any idea where to get one?(My bellhousing is an aftermarket one for 4age to type 9)

Almost certain that the clutch arm pivot is just a press fit ( Will double check for you later )

Being as the type 9 box is handy for me to get to, I will try and get some measurements for you later this morning :)

I am sure you'll be able to source a suitable clutch arm here in the UK, I will keep an eye out for one.

Here are a couple more photos for you.



Top view of type 9 release bearing sleeve & fulcrum pin assembly ( Pictured right )



Underside of type 9 release bearing sleeve & fulcrum pin as fitted ( Pictured right )

The release bearing sleeve has the part number: 839T-7050-AA
Some dimensions as follows:
OD of sleeve shaft is 33.6 mm
ID of sleeve shaft is 27.15mm
Length of shaft from top face of the casting is approx 72.5mm
Length overall from surface plate to top of sleeve 101.8mm

Clutch arm fulcrum pin.

Press fit as I thought.

Length overall 20.16mm
Top section is 10.4mm Dia & 2.06mm thick.
Bottom of pin has a diameter of 4.75, I suspect that the original diameter of the bottom section was 5mm the same as the mid part of the pin ( Deformed when pressed in ) & was inserted into the bell housing casting to a depth of about 5.6mm

There is a slight step in the pin, the top section above the rubber damper tis section is 5.76 in diameter.

The rubber damper is 6.1 long & 10mm in diameter, Probably not the original new length ( Showing a bit of wear n tear )

With a little luck, you'll be able to work out some kind of release bearing sleeve to suit your particular gearbox :)

Part of the prob resolved,spoke to BGH and seems likely the gearbox was ordered for a Duratec so hence the tube on the nose being machined off.:D

have they sorted you a replacemnt ?
if not, i will soon be machining the end off mine to put on a duratec, we could swap ?
