2.0 Duratec engines, advice please

I'm just pondering the idea of installing a 2.0 duratec to my roadster once the build gets underway, inspired by the R500 etc.

Can anyone see any problems with install and what gearbox would suit the unit?

Any other comments appreciated.

Well the R500 uses a Quaife 6 speed gearbox. Now I'm going to assume a £6,000 gearbox is out of the question, so I'd either use a MX5 gearbox or a Type 9 with a bellhousing to suit. Depends on how much power your intending to push out the engine, but I'd imagine the the Type 9 isn't going to last very long once your over 200 bhp.

The only issue I can think of is trimming the sump a little for clearance issues. I've never seen one in the flesh so be sure to take plenty of photos for everyone!

Thanks for your reply,

I'll be using a pace dry sump setup, so no issues there.

A £6000 gearbox is out of the question, certainly for the near future.

Is there much upgrade options for the type 9 gearbox do you know?

I'll have a google anyway.

Thanks again

the true duratec is the st 150
mazda based as such you can use the current mx5 gearbox i think or rally design do a duratec to type 9 adapter for about 165 quid

bloody good engine easy to make 200hp on throtle bodies and a desent exhaust

Mark, mconley3 on the forums, was building a Haynes in the US using the Duratec mounted to the 6 speed MX5 gearbox. You have to use the latest model gearbox though.

This is probably the most cost effective way of doing it, bell housings are avaiable, http://www.rwdmotorsport.com/bellhou...g/prod_19.html to mount the Duratec to the type 9 but it's £200 + all the other changbes needed. I think this is the way David (FlakMonkey) ended up going, the thread can be found here http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/foru...php?tid=109801

Kind regards

John
