Zetec engine

Hi , just wondered if anyone was fitting a ford zetec engine to the roadster.
I was thinking of it and then wondered how would I align it in the chassis is it just a case of attaching the gearbox and having a prop shaft handy and getting everything inline how close do you get the gearbox to the chassis rails u7 u8 if it gets that close.
Appreciate any ideas
Thanks,
DaveyB

Will it be easier to go through iva with a pinto, than a zetec?

A pre-1995 Zetec should not cause problems at IVA. With a post-1995 one you would need a cat, so bike carbs are not an option any more.

With regards to chassis clearance, the Zetec engine has a plastic thermostat housing stuck to the back, which conflicts with TR8. You can push the engine a couple of cm forward, but then Type 9's gearstick impinges on TT5. What I did (and spud69, apparently, too) is cut out a section of TR8 and double it up with another piece of 25x25 behind it. You can see it here if you look carefully:

Moving TT5 is another option, but TT5 is also where the dashboard panel ends if you extend it all the way to the tranny tunnel. Another issue with this route is that the reverse switch plug is hidden behind TT4.

If you have any Zetec related questions, I'd be glad to answer them.

Oh, there's an alternative to modifying the chassis: a Raceline water rail.

But they're expsensive, and people are not very happy with them: hard to get air pockets out of, and they put the thermostat quite a bit further from the head.

The Ginetta G20 blacktop stat housing is the dogs bits and about £40 with two switch holes and very short.

Thanks for the replys, I like the picture Albert, I'll remember it and try and post something similar when I get that far!

When on race lines web site I noticed crate zetec engines that's what got me thinking about that route initially but had forgotten about cat exhausts etc is it that they are so expensive or more to do with emissions at iva where problems may start ?
