suspension brackets
 

Hi guys just wanting a bit of help over here in kiwiland, im looking at making my suspension U brackets, did most people use flat bar and cold bend them or hot bend them? Then drill the hole thru both sides?
One method i was thinking was to use 50X50 rhs drill the hole then cut the side off make the U shape.
Love to know how most people on here who make their own U bracket, how did they do it.:)

Dogwood made a bender and its on here somewhere but I cant remember where and it looked the biz and easy to make.
Alternative, some heavy steel blocks and a press and make them that way.

Im lazy and bought them made from a guy on ebay uk called dave at rogue engineering.Nice quality and well made.He would have no prob posting to you.

I thought there was a company in ChCh you guys used,Macallum i think or something like.Maybe worth a look for old posts from 7ish hes over your way and may be more usefull.

i would go for Dave at Rogue engineering, they are very good and good service. Thats where we get ours from.

I've made mine out of 50x50 box section, and i used 40x40 box for the shock brackets

Another vote for Dave @ Rogue engineering.

But, as you are in NZ, the postage might be high. It is possible to make them the hard way, with a vice and hammer, but they won't be that good. I did a couple, then fired off an email to Rogue.

I would imagine, the easiest/cheapest way to have some made would be to get a sheet metal place to make a U Channel for you, then you just cut to length for the individual brackets and drill.

Or, as nnrouty says, get some ERW and cut one side off (the side with the weld). If you have a ood band saw it could be made very neat, slice 1 side off of a long length in 1 hit, then cut to length.

thanks guys plenty of great advice im heading towards the idea that londonsean had, got a mate who has a sheet metal shop, ill get him to make me some U channel then ill make a jig to dril cut them.
He's oftered to supply all the ali sheet metal for a ride of it when its finshed ( some would say thats only fair LOL )

I had considerd the cut tube at one point before I bought my chassis complete. then findound out the brackets were wrong.

I had thought the cut tubes would be a good idea again...

But for the sake of it... I orderd some instead.
