Column bearing

I have this bearing: SLFL25 LDK Pressed Steel Flange Bearing

I will use it to mount my column shaft to the bulkhead. I know than many people have used it but i am looking for pictures to see how exactly you have mounted it. If i mount it on the CP16 plate, i will have to open a large hole (56mm diameter) which is not the easiest job to do, unless i order again the CP16 from the laser shop.

Any ideas?

As its 56mm diameter u only need to enlarge the sides slightly to fit this part and this is easily done with a dremel like tool. Or cut a new rectangle with the 56mm hole in and mount it to that and then mount that to cp16 stepped back from the face.

Here you have mine. I have a wider CP16a mounting plate.

I did mine similar to AshG's. I welded a piece of 10mm plate (had it kicking around) to the inside of the drivers foot well. It was in a kind of u shape to go round the top of the bearing flange. I can get a pic tonight of you want.
It helped to raise the steering shaft as high as possible

Yes, Steve, if you can please post some pics. Thanks!

Is this bearing common to all builds for locating the steering column, not aware of it that's all

A lot of other builds MK, Locost, Robin Hood etc are aware of the advantage of using this bearing in place of the Sierra rubber donut and most use it

I think the pressed steel bearing looks a bit less agricultural than the cast one:cool: Either way its better than the poxy sierra one.

Is the sierra rubber one good enough for the job, I bought a new rubber and bush that goes with it thinking it was the norm now having seen this post wondering if it will be any good?

I've used the pressed steel bearing as shown above and it works a treat, way more stable than the stock plastic bush

For about a fiver it's well worth it IMO
