Can I use 33.7 X 2.5mm For The Wishbone Bushing Tubes
 
I Have been searching locally for some 33.7 x 2.6mm tubing for the wishbone bushings but all i can find is 33.7 x 2.5. I know its only 0.2mm different but I don't mind widening my search for the correct stuff if its going to make a difference.

Annoyingly we have loads of 33.7 X 3mm at work but it more effort than its worth to bore this out to the correct internal diameter and I believe that the seam is desirable to prevent the poly bush rotating within the bushing.

Hi Andy

The 33.7 X 2.5 tube should be fine & as far as I am aware, this is the size tube that most manufactures use for the wishbone bush tubes.

33.7 X 2.5 is a standard stock size & as you have found out, the next size up is 33.7 X 3.0
Most unlikely that you will find any sizes other than standard stock.

The thing to remember is, all steel sizes are nominal, they can and do vary from batch to batch/manufacturer to manufacturer ;)

I used 33.7 X 2.5 ( Nominal ) for my tubes & the bushes fit just fine & to be honest, wouldn't want them to be any tighter than they are.

I think because its free ill use the 33.7 X 3mm wall and bore it out on the lathe.
I cant find a short piece of 2.5mm wall locally so by the time i have either bought a 3m length on-line or a shorter piece on ebay with p&p i may as well of bought the pre turned ones from Saturn. Unfortunately I have a lot of time and no money so the free option is favourable.

With regard to using bored out tube i.e. without a seam I read last night that some small spots of weld can be applied to the inside face of the tube to give a bit of a key for the bushes.
Has any one done this or got any thoughts on it?

I think it's unnecessary. The bushes just won't rotate in the wrong place anyways.

A little tip if you are planning on boring out the bush tubes on a lathe, DO NOT use the power feed to get a nice machined finish. Set the machine slightly too slow and wind the saddle in by hand to produce a rough finish, this way the bush will grip the tube better. It will make the bushes easier to push in to the tubes but also means they wont work lose and wear the polybush out. We use the right size core drill in the Colchester but then we do them in batches of 200 plus.

thanks for the reply's.
Unfortunately I cocked up and got the two pieces of tube at work mixed up !
we have a piece of 40 something mm with a 3mm wall and a piece of 33.7mm with a 2mm wall. bad times.
Looks like ill be buying some 2.5mm wall then.

would the 2mm wall 33.7mm be ok for the roll hoop cross bar (where the seatbelts mount) or should i get a longer length of 2.5mm wall
