Chassis plates inc pedals and wing stays
So.
I have downloaded the CAD file from another thread on the forum and now I'm trying to collate all I actually need so I can send to some companies for quotes. I am wanting all chassis plates, all parts for the pedals and wing stays, want to get them all at the same time as to try and reduce the cost. I have attached a spreadsheet of what I think I need so if anyone can take a look and let me know if I'm missing anything or I have something that I don't need that would be fantastic. My build is an MX5 using the usual donor parts, planning on full GRP bodywork (VMAX). I have, when it arrives, a talon TMXR flat pack and will be getting the TMXR wishbones. I will also use talons diff cover and the TMXR diff mount. I have separated all the CAD parts as that's how a couple of companies wanted it, I assume so they can arrange themselves, and all I need to tell them is how many and how thick. https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=66F14A3D73EF3731!11544&authkey=!AOTBAN SoRJUQXq4&ithint=file%2cxlsx Hope yo can all access it as its hosted on my onedrive Thanks in advance to all you knowledgable lot |
Hi good luck with the build
Have a look at my thread on one of of the more recent posts there are plans for an upgraded pedal box so some of the plates may be different Also i heard the book wing stays are rubbish so might be better upping the thickness or look at other options Also im not sure which ones are the engine mount plates but I've read its better to make them of 5mm Steve |
Or have a go making the easier ones yourself they are quiet satisfying to make

+1 for satisfying but will ad ... can be frustrating sometimes :) lol
definitely use 5mm for the wing stays as any lighter WILL vibrate like ...... and use 5mm for the engine mounts too. Good luck with the build and did any one mention we likes photos we does n the more the merrier :) |

I have completed my list with all individual DWG files. On the spreadsheet I posted in my first post, it now has all the plate descriptions except CP24, I have no idea but I'm sure it will come clear.
I have sent this off the 3 laser cutters for quotes and was wondering if anyone has any idea what a good price would be, I have priced up buying it all separately so I don't expect it to be anywhere near that price but what should a good price be and can anyone recommend a good/cheap laser cutter? |
Cp24 does have its place but you wont find it by looking in the book
If you look on the base rails where the front bottom wishbone brackets go that should make a bit more sense |

I have got a quote back and I want to know if you guys think its ok, basically for all Chassis plates for MX5 with 5mm CP16, All Suspension and shock brackets, all pedal box plates, all wing stay parts (upped to 5mm), roll bar front and rear plates £120 What do you all recon? |
Sounds about right to me.
Book lower front wishbone plates in 5mm cost me £9 each Suspension brackets in 3mm CR4 £1 each, speaking of which how are you going to bend them? |

My advice on the wishbone brackets is get them bent when you get them cut or buy them off talon if he has any left I messed loads up trying to bend them myself then I just bought a set off talon
|
The problem with bending the suspension brackets especially the dampers is the faces are quite tight for even for most sheet shop tooling set ups. You need to make a U channel former and press them in to it with about five ton of force. I currently have two sets in stock listed on Ebay for £50.
