Exhaust question

Hi all.

I am using a 1.8 CVH engine for starters. I have noticed that the exhaust manifold is on the nearside of the engine.

I have had a brief look at the SVA manual. I found no reference as to which side of the vehicle an external exhaust has to be fitted.

For some reason I have it in my head. For a UK car, the exhaust should be fitted to the off side of the car.

Has anyone looked into this aspect.

I would welcome any views on the subject

Ronnie

There is no restriction on the placement of exhausts, other than if it is the widest part of the car then the radii etc have to conform to the regs,

As Dave says there are no restrictions re which side the exhaust exits, in fact all sevens with the crossflow engine have the exhaust on the nearside.

cheers

Chris:)

Many thanks for that, macdave69 & Chris.

I dont know why that idea was floating around in my head. Just another senior moment I suppose.

I had visions of trying to re-route the exhast to the offside.

Once again, thanks

Hi
Is there any requirement as what height should the exhausted be, I have heard if the prototype goes for the IVA, the top part coming out of the bonnet should be covered?

You have the same thought as I Ronnie, exhaust not supposed to point at the kerb and pedestrians etc, obviously the same myth.
