Newbie

Hello every one, found this forum via eBay weird i know was looking at a chassis listing.....Ive just purchased my copy of "build your own sports car on a budget" cost just £11 from amazon bargain......
I'm starting to look at parts and donor cars, just wondering tho how hard this is going to be, Ive only ever played about with cars, most Ive done is a major overhaul of a 1976 mini and a k series engine rebuild,so is it posible i could complete this build

Hi Mike,
a warm welcome to the forum :)

If you have done a major overhaul of a car then you,ll have no problem building a Roadster,
even if you can,t weld there are suppliers on this forum that can supply even a fully welded chassis,
This forum is a very friendly place & i,m sure that whatever questions you may have you,ll get helpful and constructive replies.
Have a good read thru all past threads or use the search facility for a specific topic for guidance & if you can,t find the answer then just ask away

best wishes for your build.

cheers
andy

Well I'm doing OK and I'm virtually useless:D
Seriously, anyone with the right aptitude and attitude can do it, having the right tools is essential too. When I started I didn't even know how to weld. It's now just 6 months later and I have a rolling chassis with the engine and box in place. Starting off with one of Saturn / handyandy's chassis kits worked really well for me.
Best of luck.

Thank you for the welcomes,im leaning towards a fully built chassis tho i am going to hold off untill the book arives and i have had a good chance to read it:)

Mike,

I have been out at my father’s barbequing all day and just catching up on the forum.

I can’t reiterate what Andy and Enoch (afternoon men) have said enough, great forum all the answers, I couldn’t have got as far as I have without the endless supply of top tips.

I notice you are only over in Bristol, once your book has turned up and you have had time to have a look through it feel free to pop over and have a look at my build if you like. You will probably have loads of questions which we could clear up in an afternoon over a brew.

Cheers Ginge

Hi Gingea1pom
It has been nice day for a bbq been doing the same lol,and thank you for the offer to check your build out I think that could be a big help and would be nice to see one of these roadsters being built, this forum does seem to be a huge resource ive found so many supliers and info on the car from this forum,I gota admit im very excited about this project:)

gingea1pom 23rd May 2010 06:35 PM

Mike,

I was excited when I started and am still exited now over six months later,

It is the only kit car that is accessible, financially, for me.

twinturbo 23rd May 2010 08:39 PM

I am still so excited I have spent time working on the car when I am sworn not to.. I had a mass argument with myself to justify it....

6 out of 8 wishbones are primed, and 2 of those are coloured..

I considered the cut myself route, but considered the cost and danger of cutting that amout of steel. So I planned my build around a chassis pack. And that was going to happen this august. I then found a good Chassis second hand for £300 which was a no-brainer..

I have invested a fair whack so far since January. I am trying to ge myself to the stage where I have virtualy every part needed to complete before starting, that way progress wont slow due to funds.

I seem to be quite active here, before January I had about 3-4 posts..... :o

TT

twinturbo, your build sounds very similar to how i want to do mine....get all the parts in then get cracking with the build.
just curious whats the average build time and cost for most project's?

Welcome to the forum

Hi Mike

A very warm welcome to the forum :)

This is certainly the place to be for help, advice or even just to give the enthusiasm a boost ;)

As for build costs, that can vary quite a lot & is dependent on what you buy, ready made & how much bling you want the build to have :)

Here's a link to an earlier thread that should give you the general picture.

Build costs

I hope you enjoy your build
