Donor number 2

Donor number 2 home safe & sound

That number plate is sooo apt  If only I could keep it. :(

Piccy 2 for good measure.

I thought i would convey this story in the hope that it may help other members from making the same mistake as me. !!??

My original donor was given to me for free by an old customer.

A low mileage 1.8 CVH estate whos body had come to the end of its life.

In typical me fashion, I went at it like a bull at a gate. In next to no time it was all stripped, boxed up A stored away, leaving nothing but an empty shell.

At the start of my build I was adamant that I wanted an age related plate for my build.
Although I would not diss a Q plate it was my personal prefference for an age related one. Personal plate at a later date perhaps.

When I collected the car the owner was unable to find the V5 document.

No problem I thought, I knew the owner would give it to me once he had found it.

When I scrapped the shell I followed advice given and arranged that it was to be disposed of as scrap metal rather than as a scrap car.

A few weeks after I scrapped the shell the V5 was given to me. It was promptly sent to DVLA to obtain a new document in my own name in order to keep it SORN'ed.

DVLA refused to issue a V5 as thier records showed that the vehicle had been scrapped.

In my haste to be rid of the shell I forgot to cut out the VIN number from the floor.
Some jobsworth at the scrapyard must have seen this & run it through the computer to notify DVLA.

Initially I did not think this would be too much of a problem but after reading about Frank's exploits with his local DVLA it was decided that I would keep my eye out for a second donor.

The one pictured was offered to me before christmas for £350, Passed at that price.
Last week my son asked if I was still interested in his friends old Sierra. Not at that price I said. He phoned his friend to offer £100. To my surprise he accepted.

Bonzo,
What are the wheels n tyres like mate? I'm trying to keep my old nail going a wee bit longer but need tyres and don't really want to have to buy new ones if I'm junking the car soon...can barter if you like but need two like yesterday as the lairy beast has wasted the rears...

Things I missed out

Its a 1992 GLS i

1998cc DOC EFI engine

MT75 gearbox.

I acctually felt quite sorry for the seller. He'd spent over £500 on it last year, just for it to fail the MOT on a fair bit of underbody welding.

New parts fitted included. Full exhaust system, cat & o2 sensor as well. Disks & pads all round. Battery. Two tyres.

Engine as sweet as a nut, pulls well without a hint of smoke. Engine reasonably clean unlike the usual oil soaked DOC lumps.

Gearbox is on the way out by the sound of it. Might be clutch but i'll put me money on the box.
Not a problem though, plenty of MT75 transit boxes at my local breakers. ;)

The ecu has even been superchipped :D :D

Mark you are welcome to the good tyres.
on standard steel wheels though. :) :)

I got some pepperpots down the pit I can stick on it untill I pull it appart.

I'll post the tyre sizes on this thread later.

The last thing I want is even more tyres on me stockpile. I don't know where the hell they all come from.

Bonzo,
Cheers me dears and mine is on steel wheels anyway...Might need the exhaust as bodged rear pipe where it meets the rear box with woven cloth and resin and not sure if mot man will laugh or not...it's quieter though...:o

Whereabouts are you?

Just seeing your post Bonzo, just had to post about my day.

I also just picked up a second donor. 2Ltre Pinto Sierra.
paid a bit over the odds for it but nice car with 9 months
MOT and a couple of months Tax.

Decided to stop at Tescos on the way home for some food shopping.
When I got back to the car with a full trolly of shopping
(Yes I had the wife with me) found I couldn't unlock the car.
pissing hard with rain.......getting severe ear ache...
Decided to phone the sell up asking if there was a knack to unlocking it.

Which key did you use, he asked..
The one in the ignition I told him, the only one on the key ring....
Oh he said, that will lock it but you need the other key to unlock it.
Where's that I asked.
In the glove box he said.....

I won't post what I thought, but it rhymes with James Hunt .

1hr later the nice man from the RAC arrives,
Does his twiddly bit with a coat hanger and I'm on my way again.

I was soooooo tempted to take a brick to the side screen.
If it wasn't raining I think I would have.

Mine are the same size Mark. 195/60/14 Budget tyres but all good.

As said you are most welcome to have them. I'll never use them.

I can drop them up to you tomorrow afternoon if you are about. I need to have a chat about my body options anyways. :) :)
