Little by little. I finished my silencer mount.
And started fitting my windscreen. I think I may decide to IVA with a windscreen. I have the wiper and washer gear so its just a demist solution I need really and I think thats manageable. I also managed to catch my nosecone on the trailer ramps like a tit. Im not used to sitting so far over the back wheels and turned a little too soon coming off. Need to get some spare gelcoat from Equinox I recon. Cheers Stot |
Looking good,
Steels on a G60?? TT |

I have been working on the interior so far this weekend.
The side panels are held in place just by press studs along the edge of the side panels. Covers the sharp edges for IVA and holds them in place. Back panel carpet is also held on with press studs along the top. Started on the tunnel top but broke 3 drill bits in a row so need to go shopping! Cheers Stot |
Bit more done then it started bucketing down hail!
Passenger side is all done now. Also my dash is all working and illuminating now. Youtube vid of dash working at night. Dead chuffed with it. Cheers Stot |
nice lickle vid there Andy ....the all white looks pretty good I have to say, and trimwork is tidy too.....keep it up dude....gonna be cold out there the next few days tho:(

Cheers Stot |
Well HB bud ...I never worked on me birfda.... your build is hitting all the right notes in terms of the "retro" look ....looking forward to seeing those shiny ex wheel covers as cycle wings.

They are pretty good but I cant wait to take them off and put the clams on. Cheers Stot |
Love the build stot
Can I ask where you got the glass for your windscreen and the Chanel? I'm thinking of trying to fit one to my roadster |
Quote:
Thanks Carl, Glass I haven't got yet but have the phone number of a guy who cuts Defender windscreens to shape keeping the relevant markings visible. The channel and rubbers I ended up getting from an engineering company not too far away from us here but I collected from a pub in Letchworth in the end as the guy was having dinner there! Edit: Actually the people who supply the windscreen may have the channel too. Quote:

I picked up an ex robin hood screen, toughened etc with kite marks off the bay of thieves. Is close to scuttle profile but with some ingenuity I think it will work. At £25 it was a no brainer to try anyway :D

I have been making gearstick and handbrake gaiters today. Some day I may remake the top of the trans tunnel so the holes are dead center to the gearstick etc but in the mean time I needed to find a way to mount the gaiter surrounds.
I ended up putting rivnuts into some thick card, punching through the carpet and using epoxy to glue the whole lot to the back of the carpet so I now have nuts in the carpet. (sounds like something from Kama Sutra) Ill machine the surrounds from aluminium to finish. Cheers Stot |
Gaiters are in place and work great. I also made up a covered rear panel for the tub.
The filler bracket will be covered red too. Cheers Stot |
looking a nice build there! wont be long now before your having the wind in your hair and fly's in your eyes
|
Picked up some COPs a while back and got around to looming them up tonight. Just need to get a 10000uF cap to solder in and it should be plug and play.
Saves me having to mount the huge coilpack on the back of my shiney cam cover. Cheers Stot |
Well done Andy....that is one exceptional looking roadster, it just looks the dogs in every respect... its amazing how a nice rocker cover sets off the look of an engine as yours does, I was not sure about the wheels at first, but now....they just look...."right"....testament to your judgement, now get that IVA.;)

I cant apply for my IVA yet because of my VIN number. I emailed the MASET team a couple of weeks ago. Quote:

Well I have my new VIN now so ill get it welded in and Apply for my IVA.
I have been trying to tidy some stuff up too. I covered my MX5 steering wheel pad with red leather to match the dash centre and laser engraved a horn push logo onto it. It fits pretty well and a 150mm radius cant contact the remaining spokes so should be good for IVA as they use a 165mm ball. Ill take the MX5 wheel with me just in case they try and pull the 'not permanent' thing, but I would argue who would go to all the trouble for something they weren't going to leave on! Also been working on a COP tie down for the valve cover. Its very handy having a laser cutter to be able to make card templates before commiting it to metal! Cheers Stot |
You may/may not have a problem with a welded on VIN No,its supposed to be not easily removable and part of the chassis I believe.

Ive fully welded it. I did it like Skov, cut out a piece and welded in a piece.

If it was me I would put the Mazda steering wheel on. While yours looks fine, I think the inspector 'judges' a lot by looking at the car. When I took mine for IVA, he immediately remarked on the rubber trim everyhwere, when he actually got the tool out - he walked around the car once and put the tool back in the cupboard without using it. Oh I also found that a mint assortment helped the inspection process as well...... |
I made myself a corner scale yesterday.
Using the area of the piston you can work out the Display PSI>Actual Pounds>Actual Kilos. Each PSI segment on this one is 6.4kg and you can easilly read 1/2 segments, so a ~3kg resolution upto 320kg. Total cost was about £30 including 1/4" BSP taps that I can use for other projects. I could make another 3 of these for £20 each and do all the corner weights all at the same time, and even use the jacks to level off before reading. Cheers Stot |
If this forum pooled its collective knowledge we could rule the world !

Tried it out today, the car was on a slight rearward slope but it was a general weight I wanted at this point. Front Driver - 520PSI = 165kg Front Passenger - 500PSI = 159kg Rear Driver - 470PSI = 149kg Rear Passenger - 470PSI = 149kg So an all up weight of 622kg isn't bad. Cheers Stot |
Working on an over edge tub cover at the moment. Around the roll bar and where the tub joins the sides has some less than round edges so this will cover them up. The big hole allows access to my filler cap.
Very fiddly trying to get it round the roll bar and struts in a sane way. I will velcro or popper the gaps together. Cheers Stot |
Fits quite well over the tub and bits. I have ordered some red zips for the in betweeny bits instead of pins...
Just need to trim round the edges now and popper it down. :) Cheers Stot |
Well that went well.
Cheers Stot |
That's well tidy :)

Sent off my IVA form today with the following still to do.
Replace all fluids.Seems doable. Cheers Stot |
