could i use a powerstering rack
hi everyone im taking a slightly diferent direction on my build. well for starters im going to put the engine in the rear like the mev rocket, i know theres probably different fourum for that style of car but you all seem much more helpfulll than the others. so i hope you dont mind me tagging along lol.
right to my question, im hopping to use as much of the doner car as possible but was wondering about the stearing rack as its got power stearing could i still use this? thanks looking forward to your answers probably should add i would like to use it with out power stering just wasnt sure if this was possible. thanx again |
You can use a power rack with out the pump and with no oil and in most cases it's a higher ratio than a manual one. How ever I tried this with an escort and caused some argument with the MOT tester, bit like removing the windscreen with a crack in it no screen so can't be tested. I would say drain the oil out but leave some in as lube and block the union holes with proper bolts so it looks the part. The very best of luck with your build and the IVA inspector.

or use an electric pump, with a bit of electrickey you can probably make it variable rate too.

In that case would it just not be easier to use the engine driven pump with some realy long pipes? If theres no engine in the front theres not much weight and very little steering resistance. You could use an electric powered steering column, colunm, colmun (one of those must be right) as fitting to pug 106 ,saxos and some corsa's. None of this is ment to be said in a funny way just thinking aloud today, sorry.

dont forget
to think about which side of your uprights the steering arms are gonna be if you are using the front end of the haynes chassis if you dont think this through the steering will work back to front cheers les g |
thanx everyone should save me some cash on getting a escort one.

I wonder if there is any part of the IVA that states turning the wheel anticlockwise should turn left and clockwise right.

Hi, If you mean the sierra rack then its probably better to get the correct mk2escort rack unless your able to shorten the actual rack as the inner joints will be way too far apart that is if your doing the front as per book.
also you dont need power steering on this syle of car Ray:) |
thanx all im gonna be building the chassis routhly based on a mix of the twintech f1 and the rcr superlight
http://www.twintechcars.com/ http://www.superlitecars.com/roadster_images.html basicaly the rear of the superlight and the front end of the twintech should look the muts nut. |
