Removing the camshaft pully
 

Hi guys I'm still working on getting the head off to renew my gaskets and replace the timing belt and I'm struggling to work out how to get the camshaft pully off? The haynes manual mentions using an "improvised" tool to hold it while you loosen the bolt holding the pulley but doesn't really give a good picture or description. I tried jamming some screwdrivers through the pulley against the head but that didn't really seem to work (they almost got pulled in behind the pulley).

If you have an air impact gun it may work easier than using a ratchet.

or electric impact would also work.

Have you tried a manual impact driver, they are cheapest are the ones with a socket adapter.

Obviously depending on what engine it is you could possibly remove the starter motor and isolate the flywheel using a pry bar crow bar or screwdriver ect and work the bolt loose using a breaker bar or as said above an air impact :)

I think you're thinking of the crankshaft pulley(sproket) michael, I'm on about the one at the top thats attached to the head. These impact wrenches look pretty cool, I'd definately only be able to afford one of the air ones though! Any know of a half decent make/model that's not mega expensive? Also do you need a compressor or something to run it off of and if so can anyone suggest one?

So when you used the imporvised tool adrian, where did you put the bolts from the tool thru so to speak? Im guessing through the holes in the pulley but did they just brace into the groove under the head??

The hard to find plastic thing inside the distributor cap "Rotor Arm" ;)

Lol I'm still lost. I've got a central fuel injected CVH (CFi) so it didn't have a distributor cap? Just a small flat thing that was under the inlet manifold that the 4 wires from the head connected into so how does this get in the way of removing the pulley attached to the head??
