The distance between the centre of the wheels is referred to as 'track' in suspension design...

The rear track of a standard an NA (mk1) MX5 is 1428mm, the sierra is 1468mm. These figure can be changed by wheel offset of non-standard wheels and even camber adjustments.

When comparing suspension geometry the measurements you want to be working with are the distances between pivot points i.e centre of chassis bracket to centre of ball joint etc
