The only article about the science of electrolytic derusting I found written by a qualified chemist suggested using stainless steel anodes, claiming they stay inert. So this scare about chromium salts in the electrolyte might be just that, but of course better safe than sorry. I have a hunch that it might depend on voltage whether chromium will be dissolved or not.
