I had a slipping non-return clutch in the starter, so so I asked a fellow builder/mechanic about parts for starter motors. He said he does not bother fixing them himself, and just pointed me to a shop that rebuilds alternators and starters. I took the starter to that shop and after about 2 hours had it back. They replaced the brushes, too, for the total sum of 40 or so. Perhaps look for a specialist shop in your parts.
