Mark from billingham passes without rear stays, his harnesses are mounted on the roll bar cross member. I have seen loads of mnr's on the road the same. Mounting to the seat back rail is a pita as its quite low, but a lot of manufacturers do, mk for one. Better to mount on the rollbar to get a bit of height behind the shoulders, harnesses should never be mounted below shoulder height. At the end of the day, its your choice, some iva testers may not like it, i dont know. Better to be on the safe side, or even better to keep it shiny side up
