Many years ago I was standing "fire watch" for a mate who was gas welding a plate on the underfloor of a 2CV lying on his back under the car. Well he finished the weld, turned off the torch, flipped his goggles off and relaxed to admire his handiwork. About three seconds later there was a blood curdling scream from under the car ! He had lowered his left hand which was still holding the welding filler rod of which the hot end had landed in his lap. It burned through his overalls, jeans and underpants and got him right on the old bobby's helmet
! He then jumped up and head butted the still hot fresh weld
