It's not too difficult if you have a donor to remove it all from. BMW engines are basically "plug and play" ie. everything to run them is contained in the engine loom. The donor makes it easier as you can trace the wires that join to the car and see where they go. Basically you will have permanent live, ignition live, starter solenoid and fuel pump wiring. that's all it should need to make it run. The ECU plugs directly into the engine loom.

It's more difficult if you are trying to put bits from different cars together.
