CVH crankcase breathing
Hi,
There are to pipes from the rocker cover, one goes to the crankcase and the other to the air filter. As I wont be fitting the Sierra original filter (will be using a piper cross), do you have to fit a catch tank for IVA ? Cheers Peter |

No you don't. But it will stop oil vapour going over the engine.

The yanks use these welded into the collectors and the exhaust gases passing the end cause a vacuum and burn of the breathing fumes. Early range rovers also had them. Very effective and no pongs, but not sure what they will do for emmisions.

Catch tank and feed back to filter and it will stop any vapour or smells, just be aware of backfires in carb setting fire to varour.

That yank system is a lot more effective as it causes the crankcase to be a negative pressure, less windage = more power all the other systems dont address the the problem. Only down side is a bit more plumbing. Puke cans are just more bits to make and mount with associated plumbing.

if you use systems that the exaust create the vac for the crankcase it makes the hc's go sky high so could be probs for mot's and iva
thats why we burn by passing it into the inlet on alost every car for what your going to gain i dont think its worth it for the gains tbh |

Range rover had the exhaust type system in place for a number of years without emmision problems. They had a small filter on the back of the manifold to allow a small amount of clean air in as the engine was running, that might have been the way round the problem. The trouble with inlet type pcv is that at wot there is no vacuum and fit any type of race cam and you can forget it,. Honda reckon pcv is worth about 5% on the dyno, like you say not much but add in better oil control, less oil leaks to name a few I think I will have a play. Will let you know how I get on
