Diff position.
I am well under way with my mock up build but am unsure of position of diff unit. What i need is a dimension that would represent the driveshaft centerline both in height from underside of the chassis and distance back from a reference point. Cant find anything in the book, i am not useing a sierra diff but want to keep book driveshaft angles ect. Anyone???????????????????
Bob

you can calculate the distance back from reverse engineering the drawings from the center line of the rear upright, threw the rear wishbones onto the chassis pickups as for the height i would not be determined to keep the book angles basically in the ideal world at neural ride height under no load the drive shafts want to be angled down slightly from the diff to the wheels this allows them to become straight under acceleration as the suspension squats.
a little more info may help, what diff and shafts are you planning on using? tilly

A picture of the top mounting bolt pattern ,http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:A...W-lyOikxZ_ppSw
Another with discs and brakes all together http://www.vxopel.com/pic/cobra/ra1.JPG I wanted to use this unit with the inboard brake set up and retain all the sierra hubs ect. All i would have to do is make up some mongrel drive shafts. Bob

There is no way that will fit in the book spec suspension cage, it is how ever very easy to mount. why not use sierra/granny rear disks and use 100mm bolt on cv joints with modded half shafts?

The diff unit would fit with no problems at all but dressed up with all the braking might be a different story. Worst case would be to just use the diff and retain the sierra outboard brakes. Those discs are 10" in diameter so its not as big in the flesh as picture would lead you to believe . I just like the idea of all those bits being inboard, makes hanbrake cable ,brake pipes all a lot easier, less unsprung weight less strain on all the wishbones under braking ,lsd and loads of different ratios. If it cant be it cant be but would like to have a go.

I'm not saying that the inboard set up can't be done it's just a case of why make it more complicated that it has to be?

Reason for going down this route is for the diff ratio on the unit plus the lsd, I cant find anything else that is easily available that ticks all the boxes, if it becomes overly complicated i will ditch the idea and have a rethink. Some of the bmw diffs have the ratio i want but the ones with the lsd are harder to find than sweat on a dossers forehead,
