mounting confusion
been having a play with the engine and gearbox mounts today trying to get the engine in the right place and im confused.
the diff sits central to the transmission tunnel so would have thought the gearbox would line up with the diff. anyways pictures say more than words. the engine seems to be too far to the nearside of the car but i cannot move it over because of the clutch mechanism. should the flange on the gearbox line up with the flange on the diff or is the offset ok? the offset is measured roughly at 10mm any help or advice much appreciated Ta Very Much JakeH

please dont quote me on this one! but im imagining that if youve got uni joints at the ends of the prop. that will take up any mis-alignment. but it really depends on the angle outcome when all connected.
hope that made sence Michael |

Prop does need to run slightly off center so the needle rollers in the uj get some exercise. If prop is left running straight you will get premature failure in the ujs as the neddles embed in the cup housing . Rule of thumb seems to be no more than about 3 degrees for anything over 5000 rpm. Bob

just whipped up a quick drawing on CAD, the prop is about 630mm long, at this length the offset between the gearbox and diff can be a maximum of about 30mm, seems a fair bit to me, mines about 12mm at the moment so i think im going to stick close to that (may move the engine and box over slightly to allow for better access to the clutch mechanism.
