CVH tubo Q
If I go CVH 1.8 route, can I chuck on RS turbo bits later?

not really,
the turbo parts you are thinking about come from the RS1600 turbo cvh engine which is not the same as the 1.8cvh engine. Although, the exhaust manifold from the turbo engine fits with a little bit of "fettling", thats what i have done as it creates a better exit point from the exhaust manifold compared to the original cvh manifold. cheers andy

Another point to consider is that turbo engines tend to have low static compression, usually about 8 to 1, so you would need to lower the 1.8s compression or seriously reduce boost.
Cometic do special thick gaskets which is cheaper than changing pistons and safer than using two gaskets or a decompression plate. |

Putting the Turbo & manifold on anything other than the RS1600t engine creates a whole heap of problems for limited extra performance
From memory, the Turbo was only around 150bhp and you can get a healthy 160bhp from a Zetec. You'll need to change to forged ally low comp. pistons and I don't even know if anyone makes any to suit.....but for the RSt they're about £190 EACH You could use a decompression plate but they're notorious for leaking and you'll still need stronger pistons anyway. Just use the CVH to get through the IVA then switch to the Zetec afterwards like spud did. You can always sell the CVH to the next roadster builder.... HTH BV |

the standard escort rs turbo was just under 130bhp, i'm personaly using a 1.8 ZVH turbo, cos that's what i have lying around
