Mechanical Brake Switch - Advice

I am looking to fit a mechanical brake switch rather than a pressure brake switch...Does anyone have any suggestions as to what mechanical switch to use and where to mount it?

any old spring return/ momentary normally open micro switch should do just make sure the current rating is ok for the bulbs, if you are using LED current is basically nothing

personally id make a small bracket and put it someone directly activated by the pedal

My advice - don't, go for hydraulic.

I originally had a mechanical one fitted and found that After some vigorous use of the brake pedal it had broken. They are really only good for use on the handbrake, can't take the repeated use of a brake pedal.

A hydraulic one can also be fitted in a place that's much easier to access for maintenance, and for Mr IVA man to see too. Fitting is easy, Just fit a t-piece into any line and make sure the switch is at the bottom - to prevent it becoming an air trap. Simples.

On the other hand - I used the one that came off my set of Escort pedals, remounted into my home-made pedal box.

It's been there 8 years now, and still giving good service.

It is worth looking for a proper brake pedal switch - they are tougher than your average switch, with a long travel between off and on (so you don't hit the switch's stops). They are 'normally off', until you push the brake pedal and the switch plunger goes fully out, at which time the contact is made.
