Default Mk2 ecort steering rack

Guys

Are the standard mk2 rack's ok or does the haynes need a quick rack.

What sort of money are people paying for the steering rack as i have an offer for standard rack that needs new track rods for £30 but i dont know if thats a good deal.

unless anyone knows where i can get a ood one from or has a spare kicking around there not in need of that would be great

From memory I think I got my standard rack which wad reconditioned from eBay for about £40. New ones I know are on the Saturn website. Probably worth pricing up the bits to replace as I was warned off a similar one due to the costs.

Thanks for the reply i was thinking about a recon 1 as this needs new trck rod ends and also is used and has just been taken off for a quick rack to be put on but to recon is going to cost just as much as buying a new 1

i have got a 2.9 ratio rack it was brand new only did a few thousand miles on my car before i changed it. it could pass for brand new if i was a dishonest guy.

only reason i changed is was because i wanted a 2.4 ratio which turned out not to be much of an upgrade tbh.

The Mark 2's have different threads to the mark 1's. If you install a rack from a mark 2 you need to thread your track rod extensions accordingly. From memory the mark 1 was a unf thread and the mark 2 was metric - I think it was 12mm but it was a while back that I did mine now.

almost mk2 is m14x2 and thats what you want if you get a mk1 thay are 1/2unf and you will have to get your own extensions made or there was a co. that makes hd track rods of any length you want try deamon tweeks for supply

if you have an old escort its just the case of a set of new track rod ends to make the other type fit (mk2 rack+mk2 tre's fit mk1)
