4x4
hi all, this is my 1st post.
has anyone ever used sierra 4x4 running gear?i have a siera cosworth 4x4 i want to use as a donor i would rather keep it 4x4. i know 4x4 hubs are'nt the same as 2wd so i wonder if the 4x4 drive flange will fit the 2wd hub carrier. i also know the front coilovers will need relocating. i was also considering inboard rear suspension, anyone done that. please excuse me if this is not what this forum is about,i like to be different and enjoy the challenge. jim. |

im pretty sure you need to have a word with handy andy.
i would encourage you to use something different if you like to be different but hope you like a challenge. one thing you must beleive is "ANYTHINGS POSSIBLE IF YOU HAVE ENOUGH TIME DRIVE AND DEEP POCKETS" i think the 4x4 idea would be great

I have thought about it, having owned quite a few XR4x4's...
But.. Unless your lucky and live outside the UK ( and not in another RHD country) then the drivers footwell will need some considerable space for the transfer casing and front prop. TT

Somebody called correl was on here a while back and was building 4x4 roadster but he doesnt post anymore, may have given up as it poses SO many problems!
Not impossible though, but i imagine it would create a car more expensive to build with lots of downsides compared to using the same engine in 2wd format |

Might be easier to look at Audi/VAG setup as engine and box are inline and have a diff in the rear as per Sierra and the length from the front of the engine to center of the driveshaft is relatively short and the front hubs and upright would be usable with a mushroom.

There was a 4x4 locost for sale on ebay not so long ago using a 2.3 16v engine slightly unusual i thought ? But this proves that it is possible. Personally I've been driving front wheel drive and four wheel drive cars all my life and find them fecking boring, cant wait till my car is finished so i can have a bit of arse sideways fun.....................bring it on! I think if i was going to do something different it would be rear engine, or perhaps using 200sx running gear. Well theres my two pennys worth.
