Lower harness mounts - inspection there of
Do the lower harness mounting have to be visible to the IVA inspector?
If I were to panel the interior of the cockpit the inspector would only see the lower harness bolt going through the panel. He would not be able to verify the integrity of the lower harness mount's weld to the chassis and also the grade of the captive nut the harness bolt screws in to. Is this a problem? Would documentry evidence (photos.) of the construction, taken prior to panels being fitted be acceptable evidence for the examiner to be satisfied? What are your opinions on this or better still has any member IVA'd their roadster with interior cockpit panels? |

He checked mine at iva with a torch from the back near the diff, he could see enough to make him happy.
I did have photos of this part just incase but he didnt want to see them |

Ah, looks like I didn't make my self clear, yes, of course as you say, the inner mounts can be inspected from the trns. tunnel with the transmission tunnel panels in place, but what I meant was if the other mount is panelled in. That is, the mount on the side of the car having an outer panel (the side of the car) and and inner panel (lining the cockpit)? It would not be possible to inspect the mount.
Is this a problem? |

Ahh, sorry i see what you mean now
Yes he made a point of inspecting all of mine thoroughly at my test so personally i would leave them visible until after the test if your panel isnt easily removable |

Thanks for your suggestion Mark, that's a good idea to leave the panels off for IVA, also it will let the inspector see all the welds aswell.

they accepted the photos of mine as they couldnt see the ones in the tunnel as it was sealed up from underneath.
make sure you weld the bracket on both sides.

Ah, that's interesting AshG. Nice to have some first hand experience of these matters. Presumably your photos had enough detail to show the 8.8 or 12.9 markings on the nut?
