Default Paint spraying expert question

I have started my spraying.
I'm using single pack, metalic paint.

Question, do I flat it back before I spray the clear coat?
If it was non metalic I would, but don't want to spoil the metalic finish.

Also, for everyone, take a look at this.
Its a air scoop I've been playing with to cover my Pinto Plenum.
I know it's not the pretty'st thing but in an attempt to make it look better.
Wondering if I cut out the sides with holes or a slot would it improve its looks.
Moding the Plenum ain't an option at the moment.

So question:
Do I fit it as it is?
Do one of the cutouts?
Or just bin it, and leave the Plenum exposed?
Coz that scoop will always look pants, no mater what I do..
