Story from yesterday.

Had a mate of mine phone me at about 9:00am.
"David I've had a crash, can you come and help"
When I got there I found carnage.
He had skidded across the road (Although he was only going slow) because of sheet ice and untreated road, into an oncoming car.
The Police, 3 Ambulances, and the Fire brigade. were there.
Both cars a total write off
Although my mate weren't badly hurt, (Couple of broken ribs)
The other car didn't do so well. Driver broken leg, internal injuries.
The passenger, pregnant, now looking like she may loose the baby.
There was also a toddler in the car she didn't get of uninjured either. So all in all a bad accident.
So even if you are carefully it can still happen. I got a 4x4 and I ain't going out. Except to maybe play in the snow, well away from other drivers.
Especially my mate..

County councils could be in for some huge compensation claims.

Even if insurance companies sort out the damage, the public are fully entitled to pursue civil cases against the maintaining authority if the roads or footpaths had not been properly attended too. The only thing on the authorities side is the "reasonable attempt" clauses.

Please take it easy, having had to investigate Fatal Collisions.
The waste of life can be sometimes very hard to deal with.

The worst one was when a young boy lost his life because of an egg, his friend threw it at him and when he tried to dodge it, he slipped in the road and got hit.

I would seriously recommend anybody going on a skidpan day, car control is really important and I think every driver would benefit.

They should make it part of the driving test.

I am amazed at what some cyclists are doing!! one came flying round a corner on the pavement and slid off almost into the road the other day!.
