Default zetec at 95k looks good inside

here is a little update any of you shoping for a zetec will be intersted in
just started stripping down my silver top 1.8 zetec (rdb)
i have been told buy the seller it had 95k on the clock when i liffed the head there seem to have been minor weeping of coolent from the corner of the head gasket its not a all metal type (could be w/pump) cams where in real good nik and there is no ridge in the bores and the hone is still visable even on the thust side comparing this to cvh's,i4 twincams and pintos most of witch i could see the top ring down the piston/bore gap in some cases at simular milages i was well chuffed

well have it fully stripped now visualy everthings fine ring gaps are worn out of spec but not exessively worn. got a new set pattern for a reasonable price.
all the shells look clean and no contamination has taken place there is a bit of thrust ware but its not exessive and still in spec. the oil pump looks in real good nik but i cant find any mesuments for it any where (fiestas and escorts have a diffrent pump n sump)
stupid me had lost his plastigauge so had to order some more so this delayed things .
but i think its going to be a full set of bigends and mains as i have it in bits anyways.
as mine is a 105bhp 1800 it has the oil jets blanked off and i would like to fit a set as its recomended if your going to tune a zetec without them ford dealer wanted £15+vat each seems a bit steep to me as people have said £6 on other forums
but it seems there is more than one type for zetecs
i dont spose any one has a old zetec block kicking about with a set in going spare? or has a cheap place to get hold of ford gen parts? as i would like a new set

watch out people zetec bigend bolts need replacing as thay are strech type (nothing in the old haynes manual i have)
std ones are not that strong but arp/dunnel do uprated versions that can be retorqued a few times

well update with the engine rebuild got new rings, bigends and mains all fitted in
got some uprated bigend bolts (dunnel type) and fitted new under piston oil jets as my 105bhp 1.8 has plugs fitted (oil pumps are the same as 130bhp)
just picked the head up from the auto engineers as i have had it skimed down
a bit of a double whamy job clean up and raise comp a little
next job is to modify sump and reseat all 16 valves and biuld up the rest of the botom end.
will probably mod up the ports and uprate the cams

Baz .

Where did you get your rings? Just got myself a 93 2.0L. Heard it running and it sounds good but I'm going to change the rings.

IMO zetecs are cheap enough to be throw away. No need
to go to the expense of rebuilding (unless you want to turbo it)

I've seen a few apart and all have looked as new inside. One with 178K on it that had no wear and as said hone marks still visible.

Real good engines, built to good tolerances and standards.

you will still get the hone mark in the middle of the bore you mostly get ware near the top of the bore near tdc
amost every engine i have ever striped and rebilt has has this from austin7 to modern cars
i had mine in bits hence the new bits going in also bits are cheap as chips i used a local engine remanufactures to sorce mine but ebad also had parts at a fair price
yes you can get cheap engines but thay are almost always of a unknown history
and new ones will need a cat

my rings came from http://www.karengine.co.uk/Kes/Appguide/Web_Index.htm

inlet ports have been tidyed up and port shapes are pritty good realy

im doing some resurch in cams at the mo
somthing about using 2.0l(136) cams to uprate my 1.8l to 130bhp
or get rs1800 cams (rare) or go kent/piper or somthing
