CVH Propshaft
Im going to get my prop shaft done soon but how much of the stuff on it it do I really need?
Theres a big donut which wont fit in the tunnel anyway,a three spoked round shock absorber on the other end, universal joints, centre support etc How much of this do I need if the shaft is considerably shorter? http://s1189.photobucket.com/albums/z429/ayjay50/ |

Get a quote for a new one, it won't be vastly different from a modded prop as the work involved in modding is nearly as mucha s some clean new tube and ends.

A friend of mine says hell have a go at it for me (engineer with lathe etc)
He reckons I may just need 1 uj and the small shock absorber . Any comments/advice please |

All well and good but can your friend balance it as it will be spinning at high revs and will be about 3" away from you

I dont know about balancing but he once welded the propshaft on my boat when it had sheared after I hit a rock. It ended up with less vibration than before.
However I do realise a car shaft is a different PROPosition( )as theres not much suspension or gear changing on a boat. Anyway anyone know where I can get one made(any propshaft people in the new directory of suppliers?) |

There are several prop/driveshaft specialists about. I don't think any of the Roadster specific companies do prop work (although I'm happy to be corrected).

D&F made mine.
Nothwest props also come recomended by a number of members. TT

Thanks for all the replies and advice.
Ill get some quotes from the people suggested. It will be peace of mind in the end. Mind you my t.tunnel looks like the Forth bridge with all its extra bits after HA posted something about prop shafts wandering around the passenger compartments at 90mph |
