That sucks big time! I don't see how they can get away with it. Make sure you stock up big time before 18th Oct. Gives you chance to get all your bits sorted for mixing your own.

Best bit so far: Getting it running
Worst bit so far: Cutting steel for wishbones and engine mounts.
Most annoying bit so far: Generator packing up half way through welding.

Cheers Mike,

You could set up an import licence but you would have to buy by the container load and still pay all the import duties relevant to the product. Just couldn't believe when we opened the letter, normally get 2 or 3 letters a month from GRPMS informing us of price changes but nothing like that.

Most of the cost of grp is in the labour cost so will be able to absorb most of cost hike in mixing our own gel coat.

Cheers...AndyH

My company is unfortunately forced to buy from the far east, and i will say that 90% of the items we buy are absolute crap. I wish we could have had this levy introduced 10 to 15 years ago. Far east pollution levels are shocking. You may not like EU meddling in some things, but the amount of damage thats being done unchecked is nothing to what our worst polluters do in the western world.
It is a shame that it all comes down to money, but you do get what you pay for. I honestly hope that manufacturing in the far east gets hit and hit hard. That's what has happened here. I'm in manufacturing / engineering and it saddens me every time I have to order cheaper inferior parts instead of quality (and I must admit, more expensive) UK made parts.

So, yes I feel your pain about this levy, I will feel it too as we buy GRP parts and I would guess about 50x more volume than you do. But hopefully in a couple of years the tide will turn. Chin up.

What really hurts is people get of their backsides, invest time and money to make a buisness work and some faceless over paid R Sole decides to make a name for themselves by dreaming up yet another foooking tax.

Next they will take all our money in tax and give us pocket money (and then tax it) Bunch of 5hites.

we are already taxed twice, theres not much that is not VAT levied.. May as well take it of income .

Still perhaps the Liberals proposed £10K tax free band will help the country....

I think you're quite right Balidey, but it has certainly come far too late now that, UK in particular, has lost pretty much all of its manufacturing facilities and would cost a fortune to rebuild infrastructure upto the 21st century. Its just a big hit to take for everyone associated with grp products.

It seems that people in power have no imagination and the only way to deal with problems like this is with heavy taxing, maybe its just a way to raise more revenue as they know that we have no alternative for supply.

All the Brest...AndyH

i totally agree with the above, but what/who will they tax when everything has gone due to them robbing everyone and their Granny.

Think about this TT,there is tax upon tax upon tax.
Gas Oil from a distributor has 5 % tax on it,if you sell it at a garage there is 17.5 % tax on it who is taking the pi55 out of who.

Mot test,if you invoice a test at more than you paid for it then there is liability for vat on the difference.
