Agree with that.
Large bore pipe from thermo housing to top of rad.
The large bore pipe from the water pump (the cut and shut) to the bottom of the rad.

This leaves the smaller bore pipe from the cut and shut water pump pipe (16mm) and the smaller bore from the thermo housing (16mm). These are the one I was assuming were joined effectevely bypassing the rad when the thermostat is closed.

Plus a 6mm pipe from the thermo housing (assumed this was the return to the expansion tank).
That doesn't leave me with anywhere for the bottom pipe of the expansion tank though to top up the system. (there may be a very small bore pipe on the top of the radiator??)

Mike,

You are correct in thinking that the 16mm outlet from the thermostat housing goes to the 16mm outlet on the cut and shut pipe.

You should also connect the bottom outlet from the header tank into the bottom hose from the radiator. I didn't do this instead using the rad fan switch hole in the radiator to connect the header tank into it.

You can see the adapter screwed into the rad in the picture.
