Well gaz, on the plus side for me, at least I hadn't bought them yet, as I was saving for some other bits and bobs needed before. Not that that helps you, but you have helped me, so please now have a warm feeling inside.

Gaz,

Have you actually tried doing up the nuts on the joints or are you saying they dont fit by just dropping the joints into position? Reason I am saying this is that the rubber boots on the joints will have slid down the machined tapers and you have to do the nuts up to pull the joints into the taper.

I know gus has used the transit drag links with the 3ge mushrooms with no problem, and it seems strange that Saturn would sell TRE's for the roadster that you are saying don't fit.

The EDS kit is the same as we sell only in separates:

1 pair Maxi Ball Joints
1 pair Transit Drag Links - with half nuts
1 pair RS2000 Track Road Ends

Only call them RS2000 TRE since Rally Designs sell them as this and we all get them from the same place just a bit cheaper for bulk buying. Have used these on cars and been selling them for over a year now and they have always been fine and as recommended in the manual. There has been a few threads created to read on the Locost site about the track rod ends available.

For the transit drag link don't forget to put in a secondary locking device through the upright and mushroom adaptor, ie drilled and tapped 6mm hole with a bolt through. The hole in the bottom upright needs to be reamed out to accept the maxi ball joint to show enough thread for the locking nut, careful not to go too far. The track rod end will pull up tight into the taper with the rubber housing moving down the taper to suit.

All the Best....AndyH

The EDS pack might mention locost, westfield etc. But the joints they are selling in the pack are correct. The maxi ball joints & transit links are as specified in the Haynes book. The only difference is the MK2 Escort TRE's instead of sierra. Having seen both types the sierra ones are handed and have an offset joint. The Escort ones are identical left to right.

I have bought the EDS pack and all the joints fitted perfectly.

Thanks for the replies but I'm still not happy. the first pic is the TRE with the rubber removed . The liitle ring around the taper is where the taper is cut on to the shaft. It a definite step and this step is inside the taper hole when the TRE is fitted. This means it's not sitting on the taper correctly.

Even when in the taper and remember this is without a nut on, it has very little movement. Again don't forget that there is no boot on.

Similarly the drag link without the boot shows how close it is to the top of the mushroom and why I can't ream out the mushroom any more. Again it has no nut on so will be even closer when done up.

Without the boot on it has little enough movement. With it on it'll have next to none.

It's possible I may be able to use these drag links but it will mean turning down the top to allow more movement and turning out the inside to allow a full nut on the thread. The TREs will not be fitted. I'll have to work something else out. Is it possible with these being from a diesel that they're different?

Think that was the problem I had with my tre the first time round. The taper wasn't right. Maybe its an age thing with theuprights. Sierra tre should be good. Not sure about the drasg links, keep us posted.
