Smile All is good

Just to tidy this thread up.

My new release bearing arrived this afternoon.

Here's a picture of the two bearings side by side, may be of use to others at a later date.

The standard Sierra bearing is on the left ( CCT132 ) & the Capri bearing is on the right ( CCT133 ) . Both are QH part numbers.

It can be seen that the CCT133 bearing is about 10mm thicker & will allow enough throw on the Zetec clutch.

Not the cheapest of bearings at £26.93 but needs must & all that

They managed to get the part in direct from QH stock & was a next day service.

This was also the factor that I used to obtain my Maxi & transit joints, I seem to remember that the prices for them was quite good

Anyway folks, that's me sorted & all is good with the world once more

Hi Aidan

I believe there are a few options open

As the 2 Litre flywheel is so heavy, most folk opt for the much lighter 1.8 Zetec one.
Possibly if using the original 2 Litre flywheel you will most likely be able to use the standard CCT132 Sierra release bearing.

If using the standard flywheel you'll need to find a clutch friction plate that is the same diameter as the Zetec one & has a 1" 23 spline centre.

The standard sump can be adapted to suit but again, most folk opt for the 1.8 Zetec one or a lowered 1.8 CVH one.

You'll need a 1.8 CVH starter motor as I believe the zetec one fits the wrong side of the engine for the type 9 gearbox .

A spiggot bearing will be needed for the flywheel, this will support the type 9 gearbox input shaft.
Very easy to fit as the Zetec crankshaft is already drilled to accept it. The bearing can be got directly from Ford or found on Ebay.

Finally you may want to use the 1.8 CVH sandwich plate between engine & gearbox ..... That said, I don't think they are very easy to get hold of .... So at a guess, I would say that folk either alter the Zetec one or just don't bother to use one !!??

Here's my set up

1.8 Zetec engine, from a 1992 Mk5 Escort

Lowered 1.8 Zetec sump

Mk1 1.6 / 1.8 Mondeo clutch cover & friction plate

QH CCT133 Clutch release bearing

1.8 CVH starter & sandwich plate

Flywheel spiggot bearing

Ford Capri Mk1 clutch cable

Type 9 Gearbox

I hope this is of some help to you .

Glad your sorted Ronnie, basically same setup as mine there..

Problem with the 2L flywheel can be the thickness. Some fit the type 9 bellhousing, some don't!

On my ST engine the flywheel was bigger than the bellhousing aperture and simply wouldn't bolt up to the engine!

Steve

As for the spigot bearing, its number in the SKF catalogue is HK1516. They're a bit cheaper at the bearing factors. Haven't gotten mine yet, but I'll give it a try.

Cheers for that part number Albert

I am really pleased that I have managed to get the engine & box all fitted together.

All covered up & put to one side for the time being.

I have finaly managed to get the chassis back on its stands .... At last I can start the final fitting of the mountain of parts I have to hand

Yay, for once I'm getting something cheaper than you guys! The bearing factor had some inventory of a factory that went under. The bearing cost me only 77 pence! I'm tempted to buy a bunch of them and sell on ebay for 10 quid apiece, free shipping!

I tried it, it's indeed the right size.
