Cast

Cast or not to cast that is the question. I have been looking at ideas for the screen posts for the roadster and I think that the types of posts on the old mga and midgets are near enough for the roadster. They dont fit of course but the concept is a goodun. The glass drops in from the top and there is a rebate for the side screen to go into and plenty of meat to hinge off.



With this concept under the dash I reckon it would be easy to mount.



And if the contours were right it could fit snug on the scuttle.



Now on to the casting.

Could not help myself so I bought a casting set up complete for 15 man pounds off rodsnsods.









holds about half a gallon of ali so about right for the screen pillars.

Now I am non to bright at artistic stuff so please feel free to design a screen pillar and I will cast it in an attempt to put weather gear on the map for the roadster.

wouldn't it be easier to make a scuttle that matches the contour of the Midget scuttle and just use the Midget posts?

Ahhh .....dig out the cope and drag then some petrobond sand and a bit o talc
takes me back a bit does that

I have made molds and had stuff cast for years but my local foundry went pop. I made a bellhousing conversion for shoving chevy petrol/diesel engines in range rovers and landrovers, I made it universal for all the different bolthole variations and both hand of starter arrangement. The good thing about it was the locating dowels were in the same place for any v6/v8 chev.The bell housing mold took me about a week to make. Sold hundreds.


Made another mold and had some alternator brackets cast. Saved a time in fabbing.



Then had my own rocker covers cast. This mold was all wood so i had it engraved on top. I had these done as there wernt any for the yanks without holes in the top



I am making a bellhousing for the roadster because the geartunnel being so small shoved the engine to far forward, it now means the engine goes tight to the baulkhead, thats 6" more than I could have got it without the bellhousing.I have made enough molds but never had a crack at casting so wish me luck and all things being equal we might make a step forward in a decent screen set up for the roadster. Any casting advise anyone ??????????/
