About a year after buying the book and deciding to build one I finally got some running gear and a welder, nowhere to build it yet mind but working on that (thinking maybe an old caravan parked on the drive gutted out lol).

I was planning on a Portamig MIG but seeing the TIG I couldnt resist.

Those donor parts won't fit a book roadster unfortunately. Diff is wrong size etc.

I think one thing I've definitely picked up over the last year of reading the forums is that almost anything is possible with enough effort. This is probably the friendliest and most helpful forum I've ever signed up to so that gives me a little optimism that problems can be overcome. I did know these wouldn't be a perfect fit when I bought them but I'm planning on a nice big fat bimmer V8 so I'm hoping they'l go with that quite nicely. Once I get that in place then I'l have to start planning the rest around it.

sounds like a great plan, especially already understanding that a bit of re fabrication will be needed

I have a BMW straight 6 in my daily driver....would love a V8

V8? Yes got my little heart set on it! Correct me if I'm mistaken but I think my best option is a pre 8/95 M60B40? 4.0 286 bhp, rather silly really They seem rarer than second hand portamigs though.

Haven't got a clue which box fits on it yet but I'm patient, one step at a time. When I'm ready to start I will post up a blog/build diary and probably a million questions.

Andy, I should apologise to you, when I first bought the book I emailed you regarding chassis packs, you replied within a week apologising for the delay and asking what I wanted to build, Hmm had to think then and still figuring it all out so apologies for not getting back to you its just I still dont know all the answers.

Its just great to see that you are now commencing your build, & it looks like you have done some great research along the way , sounds like a great project

I,m not that clued up on BMW engines, mine is the M50 engine, 2.5ltr straight 6 in my E34 525i, that has 192bhp & have often thought when the time comes that the car shall be no more that i,d love that engine in my Roadster

Good luck with your build, I,ll follow it & look forward to seeing it progress.

I was just saying the parts won't fit a "book" roadster, obviously anything is possible with a bit of imagination.

I love BMW engines particularly an me EVO straight 6 at about 8000 rpm. Best of luck with your build.

Aerosam has already done this v8 bmw thing and there are quite a few piccies of it on his build up.. Its a bit of a beast and lighter than the six pot

From the BMW brochure for the new M3:

445 + 33 = 478.
