Default Couple of questions regarding V5 etc

Hi,
Just a quick couple of questions,
Firstly regarding the V5 doc for the car.
As I am using the engine etc from my escort and need to use that to prove the age of engine etc and afterwards scrap the shell.
What do I do regarding the V5 as when the car goes to the scrapyard they usually take the V5 and declare the car as scraped.

Does anybody know what parts of the car I need in order to get an "age related" plate?

I have been told that a "Q" plate is more expensive to insure is that true.

Thanks in advance
Dean

I put mine on SORN and removed the chassis number. So in effect the car still exists in my ownership even though the shell has been scrapped

Yip

i cut out all the identification, chopped it up with a recip saw! then just threw it in with the general scrap.

As for what parts you need i think you get so many points for each component used, If you use enough parts off of a donor vehicle (engine, gearbox, final drive, brakes, steering column and maybe wiring loom) then you will qualify for an age related plate.

Maybe someone else knows the exact min required though?

Cheers Will

" Recycle "the old body shell parts as metal scrap and dont send the V5 to DVLA as scrapped or the number will be unusable as evidence of the parts.

just a point a v5 is not needed to register as scraped this can be done from a vin/chassis no.
to be on the safe side you can remove the numbers

as for engines i dont think v5 can be used to proove age as the old trick was to register your rotting doner to have any old engine no. then use the new v5 to register your kit.

if its a ford motor its easy to get a letter from ford (free) or some iva people are happy to go from a ford dating chart (look in burton power catalouge)

or fit a cat

My point was that if you fill in the V5 as permanently scrapped you would assume that engine and box went aswell and the vehicle is no more.

Recycling the body is different (say no more)

As far as I am aware the last 7 digits of a Ford VIN number are the engine number ( Engine number fitted at manufacture )

This being tha case & assuming that the engine has never been changed, I can see no reason as to why the V5c can,t be used as proof of a ford engines date of manufacture

If you don't scrap then you will get a sorn reminder every year.

I think VOSA are savy enough to realise that if a car has been a used as a donor then the shell would have been scrapped and the running parts removed.

Take a copy of the V5 before scrapping the shell.
