Default BEC airbox and engine height in engine bay

Hi all, having a workout on how to do my airbox for my 1000rr engine.
my plan was to fit this alloy airbox ive got, as you can see from the pics it reduces the height from 780mm down to 680mm.

will this fit in the engine bay ok? how far can the sump sit below the bottom rails?

Also the 1000rr engine has a 2nd fuel rail that sits on the original airbox, so this has got to be incorporated into it some how and also i need filter options, ive got a round flange plate that i can fit on the end to allow a k&n style filter but i think one of the long pipercross filters would be better?

Hi,
Here a thread about ground clearance I bookmarked because I found it very useful:
http://www.haynes.co.uk/forums/showt...nd+clea rance

Regarding the clearance under the bonnet for your bike engine, it will depend of course where you put the engine (far front, far back, middle, etc.) but also of the bonnet you will buy. Two examples:
- Equinox bonnet is 264mm high in the back, 203mm in the front on top of the top rail.
- Saturn one is 260/200
I hope this will help

Brill thanks. I presume the angle of the bottom of the sump is I've level of the engine? Or is there another way of getting the right angle?

No idea about that. But I guess the engine should lean of the same angle as on the original motorbike.

Usually you have bottom of engine (upper oil sump edge) leveled.

wylliezx9r's photo according ground clearance:

Look here - maybe this will be useful for you either (by wylliezx9r):

Thank, defo something to go on. Looks like I might have to stick to the original airbox as don't wanna lose top end power. I'll just have to have a HUGE bonnet bulge!

I think any airbox would be better than sausage filter - so you can use your alloy airbox with cone filter on the inlet (with cold air intake).

Would a cone filter be ok on the end or would it struggle for air?

Found at locostbuilders:

That's a very neat airbox! Think I'll just have to fit the alloy airbox as low profile as poss and adjust the bonnet to suit
