Default Fuel filler cap

The fuel tank I have has a 44mm dia pipe with 38mm I'd. I am struggling to find a cap that will fit. What system are others using for their tanks. I think I may have to cut off the 44mm pipe and replace with a 50mm one. What do others think.
Thanks in advance
