Default Steering rack from a Mark 1 Escort

I have been offered a steering rack from a Mark 1 escort. Does anybody know if it will do the job or if it has to be one from a Mark 2 as per the book? I have been told it's only the length of the splined shaft that goes to the steering column that is different but can't find any info to back this up. Anybody know any different?
Thanks in advance.

Not 100% sure .... But I think you'll find that the Mk1 steering rack uses an imperial thread for the track rod ends.

If this is the case .... Might cause you a little hasle when it comes to the steering rack extensions

Sorry, that's the best info I have floating about in that little pea brain of mine

Default MK 1 Racks.

You are correct Ronnie, the Mk1 steering rack uses an imperial thread for the track rod ends.

That's not a big deal as I would have to make extensions anyway so I can put any size thread on them. Anybody know what size thread they are?
Thanks chaps!!

Default Mk1 Rack thread

Although I do not have one here to put my thread gauge on .... I believe the thread may be 1/2" UNF

If you are going to machine your own extensions & have the right tap, tis no real drama ..... You can still thread the outer end with a M14 thread

There's a very good chance I have a 1/2" UNF tap if you don't have one .... Happy to give you a lend of it when your ready

I'll have a little look after lunch

EDIT

Would you believe it !!??

I got 1/2" BSF .... 1/2" Whitworth but no 1/2" UNF

Got both sizes of tap, either side of 1/2" UNF though

As they say .... It's the thought that counts
