Default Front Lower Suspension Bracket packing

Our front lower suspension brackets need packing out by about 1.5mm. would it be better to just make some new brackets 1.5mm deeper?
If packing is the best option then how is best to do it? Do you cut some 1.5mm steel to the 25mm width of the box section and the 40mm width of the bracket, weld it on then weld the brackets to this?

Many thanks in advance

Andy

If you can make new brackets yourself to suit then personally i would do that instead of packing them out.

Making some new ones is definitely my preferred method. I don’t think packers would be very aesthetically pleasing.

As Aussie has said, if you can easily make new brackets to suit then that would be best way to go.

That said, If I didn't have the tools to hand, I wouldn't go out of my way to do so.

A correctly packed & welded bracket, I my own personal view would be not be a weak point.
Correctly welded suspension brackets are far stronger than the material it is welded to.

I'm going to make some more on my lunch break. The more i think about it the more i dislike the idea of packing them out.
Do people ever skip the packers and weld them on with a gap?

I dare say it has been done but I would strongly disagree with that approach, It has so much potential to cause major problems

I just made a couple 1.5mm longer so ill trial fit them tonight.
Were not planning on welding them on until we have fully welded the chassis but it gives me something to do on my lunch time at work.
I did my jig with 12mm holes instead of 12.5 like the guide so if they are close i can always open the holes up to 12.5 mm which will give us 1mm to play with.
