Default Adjustable Thermostat/fan, Worth having ??

I,m getting to the last few jobs to do to my car & was wondering if its worth fitting an Adjustable thermostat so that I can set at what temp the rad fan kicks in.

I,m using the 1.8CVH engine but plan on upgrading to a Zetec in the future.

Is it worth installing such a device or is it overkill & should I just stick with the standard cooling system?

Your advice/thoughts please guys

cheers
andy

I would say KISS as the more fiddly adjustable bits the more things go pear shaped......remember fiddling with with those nobby bits on the top of yer forks only to make things worse then you can't get it back to how it was?....

Yeah, I see where you,re coming from Mark, sometimes it would take age,s to find the right settings after I,d played about with the settings

Was just thinking , as I intend to drive my car enthusiastically ( when on track ) I might try to make the engine last a bit longer etc etc

You know how it is, we all like to fiddle with knobs & buttons

cheers

Could always wire the fan so you can manually turn it on when playing on Her Maj's race tracks

If you are using the original temp sensor/switch make sure it does actually work when shorted across the terminals and as Mark says manual overide for sitting in traffic.

Using the fan with engine off will only cool rad, electric water pumps are fitted to so VW/Mercs in the cooling system and may be a good idea for track use
