Default windscreen glazing

Does anybody know anything about Glass for the windscreen.

I have a windscreen frame thats has perspex in it, need to get a piece of laminated glass cut to fit the frame,

Whats the script with kite marks for IVA?

Any suggestions on where to get the glass cut? anybody got any experiences to share?

I had a windscreen made for my boat a couple of years ago.
I made an exact pattern out of plywood and ordered it in toughened safety glass. I ordered it from a local double glazing supplier

The cost was next to nothing and it came complete with all the embedded kite or spec marks

i thought i had read something similar before somewhere.

I have a template as the original is perspex, which will make a good template hopefully.

That Cossie engine in the roadster is enormous

Tip of the week: Dont accelerate out of a bend

kite mark is no good for iva. it used to pass sva but its changed now. the requirement now is the correct E mark. cant remember the exact number but its in the iva book.

Smile Screens

I can only think of one way a decent screen that ticks all the boxes as far as iva goes is ever going to materialise. It needs enough people to put their money up with spud or talon and have them made in numbers. Then weather gear could be knocked up on a pattern that would fit all. Theres buying power in numbers! I am up for it as the bit of hair i have left cant be used as a bug strainer.

Default You could try an automotive glazing specialist...

Cyberbeej,

I am planning on fitting a winscreen, (although I am a long way from actually doing it!), and did a little research on getting one made:

I found a automotive glazing company close to me (http://www.windscreendorset.co.uk/index.html) and sent them an enquiry. That is, a picture of a Seven style screen and the logo of the screen marking required by IVA (as mentioned above). I asked if I sent them a template whether they could make something to order in laminated glass with the marking and to the shape of the template.

Answer was yes, not a problem at all. I didn't enquire about the price though.

So, suggest you find some where similar and local to yourself and see what they can do for you. Like the firm I conntacted they initially looked like an Autoglass place that only did chips and production cars, but further on in their site they mention bespoke glazing and have pictures of pretty old cars. If you do find out a price could you let us know, even if it's just a ball-park fiugre. I've really no idea how much it might cost, £100, £200 more/less, who knows?

Talking Dont go to flimsy !!!

On the cobra i built the screen sides went through the scuttle panel and bolted to the chassis loop that went under the dash. There was also a center stay that went from the top of the screen down to the scuttle, this was also used for the rear view mirror. This all sounds ott untill you get up to speed with the weather gear on and realise that the hood is trying to pull the top of the screen off. Also every passenger that got in or out used the screen pillars to pull on. Dont go thinking that you will get away with just bolting the screen to the scuttle bearing in mind the weather gear will also be tensioned against it. I think the screen itself is the easy bit.

Some good thoughts there bob, i to have considered the fact that people (including my self) getting in and out will use the windscreen for some suppore.
With that in mind i have fabricated some brackets that go inside the scuttle to support. it will just look like its botled to the scuttle but be much stronger.

I'm also considering a full roll cage after seeing the after mathe of a westfield that hit a tree, the guy was very lucky.

Its a little smaller now, in the process of fitting a dry sump system to get it to sit lower in the chassis and manufactured 6 throttle bodies that does away with the massive inlet plenum chamber. Managed to reduce engine height by 100mm so it will fit under the bonnet, i like the clean lines and being a bit smaller than average height, i want to see where i'm going.
Also helps get the centre of gravity down.
